I'm qualified to respond to this in one way only, as a parent.
My take is as much as it hurts or angers you to hear things like this from some a**hole, you have two kids who need someone to take care of them. As much as I have wanted to take certain actions against people, I need to remember that I am responsible not only for myself but my children as well. IMO, you can not win by taking this guy on either verbally or physically. By that I mean, in the end, if something goes wrong, and you are held responsible, who's going to look out for your kids?

This is not the same as being single, as much as it hurts to hear, your kids are more important than anything you could say or do to this a**hole. Avoid this guy if you can and let it go. It's not the best thing to hear, but it's the right thing for your kids.

well I waited for him to leave for work this morning ,so when I got back from the gym sure enough he was walking out to his gf's car smokin a cigerrate,anyhow I walked over to him and just asked him if he had anything he wanted to say to me or about my kids,he said no what do u mean ,so I repeated to him what I thought was said and he started backin up sayin he didnt say anything,and I just told him calmly that if he ever says something to my kids and their mother I would beat him,I started to get mad,I think cause I knew he said the shit and I hate when u confront people and they denie shit cause they r scared.I guess I got my point across,my dad was sayin if the guy wouldnt say it to me face to face he is a waste of time just all talk.Thanks everybody for your input,I was pretty hot last night.Hopefully he will just avoid me from now on.
