Canada's health care system is different than that of the US.
My cities only abortion clinic is in the city hospital. Just 30' down the hall from the IT office.
They only preform abortions 1 day of the week. It's pretty weird that day... security guards escorting me to my office, etc.
Since there's only 2 things on this floor...the abortion clinic and the IT offices, I know when I see a girl in the hall, why she's here.
This has brought a few awkward moments my way..
Like the time I saw a good friend wandering the hall.. course I open my stupid mouth with "What brings you to these parts?".
Or the time I forgot it was "Naughty girl Tuesday" and tried to pick up this hottie..
Honestly, I'm surprised at the demographic. I expected to see only young girls. But older women are in there all the time. Some look well off, others look like they are bums. Some seem like totally cool people, some are right off their rocker.
Then there's the protestors. Quite the bunch themselves. I have to wonder to myself what they hope to achieve. I mean, the girl already has an appointment for an abortion.. do they really think that they'll see the protestors and suddenly decide to keep the baby? Does this poor girl really need any more trama right about now?
Honestly I have a reluctant pro-choice stance. I don't agree with abortion, but think the women should have the right to choose.
But it's not the topic of abortion and wether it's right or wrong that I'd like to discuss here. That's already been done... I'd like to discuss everything else around it. Mainly the roll of protestors.. I've got to sit in a guarded office because of these people doing "God's will". Last year a doctor who preformed abortions at this hospital was shot and nearly killed. Abortion isn't right, but killing doctors is? What about their signs "Abortion stops a beating heart" for example.... blatently false. Or "Grandma's for life"... the relevance is where?
Just once I'd like to go out there with a "My Daddy is a Rapist" sign.
