Does insurance decide who lives or who dies?
For instance with hold a life saving expensive surgery if the person has a couple of strikes against them.

    Re: moral medical question

I think insurance can play a role in it. My son broke his back and had major surgery to fix it. Insurance paid for everything but my deductible. We had a good experience, well as good as sleeping at the hospital for almost 3 weeks could be. But we do for our kids.

I just had cataract surgery. they would pay for the basic surgery, the basic lenses but not the laser surgery and the upgraded lenses. If I chose this I would still have to wear glasses. So I upgraded. I think that is fair. they paid for what they would pay for and I paid for the upgrade.

I think we have more to fear from med staff. 250,000 deaths due to medical mistakes a year. I do not think insurance can hold back on necessary life saving treatments but will not pay for things deemed extra. I am no simp for insurance. Also my wife is an medical auditor/coder. She knows more about insurance than the insurance people. She will go to war over $10 and she always wins so I do not mess with it.
