she hasn't been charged with anything. the judge threw out her request to dismiss a CIVIL suit that was filed against her for failure to disclose her sale of the ImClone stocks. it had NOTHING specifically to do with the current "investigation" going on of these supposed insider trading "charges"....
and the sad thing is that regardless of whether she's guilty of insider trading (which would have been like a $10k fine or something from the SEC), those pukes in congress are going to try to charge her with obstruction of justice - which is a criminal charge that can land her in jail.
sorry to say, but it was COMPLETELY blown out of proportion. they did NOT need to treat martha the way they did in this investigation. it was extremely unfair, and the media assessed her guilt before she even had a change to defend herself.
How is making millions off dollars of a stock while people lose their jobs and other stock holders suffer BLOWN OUT OF PROPORTION. What you are quoting is a standard fine of 10K, not the rule. So I guess celebrities should not be punished for their crimes; let them buy their way out lik OJ. Martha Stewart treats people like crap (according to documented interviews with her old staff) and deserves to get what is coming to her.

can you please go back and READ what actually has happened already.
she made like $300k from the stock sale. this has been published information. so NO she did not make millions of dollars off of this one illegal (if she even did commit it) action.
and yes, stock holders and investors were hurt when stock in HER company (Martha Stewart Omnimedia) went down into the shitter because the media gave her a "guilty" verdict before she was even charged with ANY wrong doing.
if they're so keen on getting assholes who have screwed the current economy and investory confidence, they should be going after the assholes from WorldCom, Enron, and Tyco.
The economy does not fully run on corporate scandals. Worldcom was just fined $500 million, all of the Enron execs are being prosecuted except one who killed himself and Tyco is being investigated as we type. Investor confindence has been down due to poor economical data, the war in Iraq and the unemployment rate. Freedom of speech is what makes this country great so if she was given a guilty verdict by the media before her trial so was Worldcom, Enron and Tyco.
