I'll bet 100 bucks it's the belt, the same belt that goes to the alternater that goes to the power steering pump and the water pump, and a/c. Either that or Did you check your rotator splint?
Maybe the muffler bearings could be going bad also. just my .02

serpentine is the type of belt. it has one big multigroove belt instead of several.

The power steering is out a little because the batt is hardly working and not even juicing the lights. The way she could have multiple symptoms is because these accessories run off of one belt most probably, the serpentine belt ----> one belt running all the accessories (water pump, alt., AC, etc).

In which case means: no battery = no accessory power.

As a matter of fact, I did write that quickly and wasn't looking to spend any significant time on it to begin with....and I admit, I DID notice how I wrote it as soon as it was posted up - (but I said fuck it, and just decided to let it fly since I didnt have any real time to invest in the thoughts to begin with). My thoughts were obviously caught up on the serpentine in a round-about way....I just didn't "proof read" my thoughts before posting. Drive to your local auto parts place, they may test your alternator for free. Already been said probably, alternator is dying and/or belt walked off its track and stripped itself to death (it happens).
