Baby boomers grew up when alcohol was the center of everyones social life. Now young people dont drink as much. Maybe because now they have other places to connect with people and socialize besides bars. I remember when the only way you ever were going to meet someone was if you went to a bar. Thats just the way it was. If you had game, you could meet women at the mall, but most everyone went to bars. Now all you gotta do to meet women is have a cell phone. Edit: and its been good for women too. Now women dont have to go to a bar alone like they used to have to do if they were lonely. The moral of the story is lonely people no longer have to go to bars. Some people just like bars. Thats fine. I used to hang out in bars and drink my ass off. I stopped but many of my bar friends didnt stop and they died from it. Two of my closest friends died directly from booze. 100% preventable. 100% caused by alcohol. I dont believe in the devil but if there was ever a satan, its alcohol. Most evil f***ing drug ever invented by man.

Sorry for your losses. I haven't lost friends to drinking but ive lost a few to pain pills one just last month. Its all a shame. Again sorry for your losses

Sorry to hear. Yes, pain pills can be as equally evil as alcohol and turned a lot of normal people into heroin addicts buying heroin from gang bangers and shooting up.
Alcohol and drugs are part of the brainwashing of America thru advertising>
The shitty part is for people who are legitimately in pain. They just want pain relief but they get treated like shit by doctors for it. Nothing worse than dying of pain and having an ER doc accuse you of faking it to score some percocets. But am sure theyre getting that all day long but stil, Some people shouldnt be doctors

It starts as a matter of choice, you choose to cope in a health way or an unhealthy way. I personally don't feel it makes one neither weak nor strong, in the way they chose. It is just their path. Friend pressure and like you said, "the media"...the strength comes in walking away from it.

I've lost so many over the years to drgs, alcohol, or a combo.

Many of them got sober for a while. When they went back they weren't used to the higher dose or the newer stuff and OD'd the first time.

Talking about pain pills and those in legitimate pain;

The movie 'Cake' with Jennifer Anniston' was great. The way so many doctor's use pain medication is a recipe for addiction.

Its one of the biggest problems in our society, no doubt about it. So many peoples lives are being wasted by alcohol and drugs and not to mention all the domestic violence that it causes. When I see the advertising on tv for drugs and alcohol, I see the entire nation as sheep being led mindlessly to think and act a certain way. The vast majority have no idea they are being literally brainwashed into slavery
