Can't say I've ever combined the two. I think I'll be okay as long as I dont lighten my weights.

      Re: Cardio and strength

I'm gonna say something that may rub people wrong and honestly, I don't care. To many people make cardio and strength training so overcomplicated that at a point it becomes ridiculous. Lift weights, as hard and heavy as you can. Notice I said "as you can"? This is one area where so many fail because they try to train way out of their strength range. Do cardio, do whatever you like, be it in the gym or on a track or walking in the hills, whatever makes you get off your ass and do it. When you aren't doing your strength training or cardio, eat and rest as much as YOU can. If you have a super busy day with work or family, eat a bit more to prevent going into a caloric deficit. Have an easy day, eat a bit less. This isn't rocket science, quit over-thinking this stuff. Lift, do cardio, eat and rest.

Use the K.I.S.S. theory, Keep It Simple Stupid.

      Quit thinking and start training.

Did 3 miles today. Felt horrible since it was my first time really running in 3 years.

          I'm gonna do it.

5150, I like what you are saying and agree in certain aspects. Suprfast, Give this thing your best shot and let us know how it goes. Long distance running is like doing a million reps. It is hell on your central nervous system. I am not saying you will lose all your strength. I am saying I think it will be very dificult to reach your highest potential in strength training. I am all for increasing endurance and conditioning. Like I said it might work out for you, Let us know how it goes.

BR, In my personal opinion, If you have trained specificaly to develop strength and reached the upper limits of your potential I would say no it is not possible. I seem to be the minority here. I am not too proud to admit im wrong if proven to be.

                  Re: Cardio and strength

I think one thing that is being overlooked here is, I am not training to be a long distance runner. I just enjoy it. My focus will be on all my weights and seeing improvements. I think for me it can be done, but only time will tell.

                    Re: Cardio and strength

no i dont believe i have gotten as strong as can get....i was just wondering if i could run and continue getting stronger and maintain muscle or increase if i increase macros per day... in order to compensate for the increase in intensity of training

                      Re: Cardio and strength

Yeah being in the marines requires us to be able to run forever at the drop of a dime so even with me trying to lift for strength meaning olympic style i still get my miles in example

monday 6 miles split am /pm strength training
tuesday 4 miles am/pm strength training
wendsday 3 miles straight pm strength training
thursday 2 miles am strength training
friday 1 mile am strength training

thats how i got to running 3 miles in 19 minutes flat but i hate running !

                        Re: Cardio and strength

i knew marines who trained for power we had bench press comps on base etc... right now i am starting a new routine where as i will be doin 4 x 12 on everything i am still cutting and on a low carb diet so i wasnt planning on running again until my carb intake has increased a good bit
