  • mouth guards? who uses them?

anyone here train with any sort of mouth guard? i know there have been studies shown that clenching your jaw can give you more power and strength and obviously you dont want to be doing this without some kind of protection. usually i just chew gum but i was curious to see who uses mouth guards.

i do. i have a brain pad double and a boil and bite cheapo that i like better. i use the boil and bite almost exclusively for sparring. it's more comfortable.

i assume you are talking about weight training, i dont know if it helps for that but i know when i clench up i bite down and my neck feels stronger and i can push with my head.

i will assume that using one and biting down when doing a heavy lift the jaw muscles flex in conjunction with the neck muscles and its just more solid.

i doubt this helps but it is what it is

just for sparring. never have for lifting weights but would probably have to agree with jipped's theory on it

i thought about it, but my gym provides towels, so on that one or two sets i really want to clench my teeth for i'll just bite down on a freshly washed towel.

My dentist a while ago when I went regularly ha ha, always used to ask if I grind my teeth which I don't. Well after a few more questions it was determined that I clench my teeth while working out unknowingly. If I could find a small, unnoticeable mouth guard I would definitely use one. I don't talk to anybody in the gym so it wouldn't matter...
