  • Thinking of a bodybuilding comp??

Well, I have been toying with the idea of training to compete in a bodybuilding comp....specifically in the new physique class they have. Basically it's just coming out in board shorts and turning 4 times or so and that's it. It has no routine like the bodybuilding portion.

I wanted to get some experienced opinions though. Am I aiming too high? Is this something that only genetically "lucky" guys can do? I would be working with a trainer to get this done. I'm wondering if something like this is the motivation I need to get to where I want to be physically.

Anyway, I was just thinking about the idea.

absolutely not, anyone can get in great shape. Genetics will come into play for competitive bodybuilders but a physique class should be fine. As long as you keep up the hard work you can step on stage soon enough and not embarass yourself.

You should do it. It will get you ripped.
I competed in 12 BB contests and was an npc judge for 2 years. Its a great sport, you just have to sidestep a few dickheads the sport attracts

Re: Thinking of a bodybuilding comp??

Well, this past Friday I started a new routine geared more toward the show. There is a show in October but with me figuring on dropping on average .5%BF per week, I won't get where I need to be by then. I don't really want to go on a strict "show diet" from now until then. I think I can just continue with my same diet and get to 10% (or close to it) a little safer and easier. Then I'm hoping to maintain around 10% and cut from there if I need to. So it looks like I will just train and get where I want to be and then hit some shows next year. I feel the results will be much better than just jumping into a show for the sake of being in it.

Either way, I have decided to do it for now.

good deal man. I have been toying with the idea of doing a show next year. One tip of advice i would give is just drop the coin and get a good diet coach. It will pay off in the end. I plan on getting one i just gotta find a show decide when it is and start putting things in place. Also i need to bring my damn legs up after a few years of neglect.

I have a trainer right now. He is the one that changed my routine and has me on this diet. Our goal is like I stated above. Use this diet to get to around 10-12% and then diet down for a show. Should be interesting.....all depending on ME

That's what I'll be doing. Yeah, the BB contest is not for me. I'm not getting up there in a speedo and doing a routine and all that. But this class is just wearing some board shorts, turn a few times, and walk off.

Re: Thinking of a bodybuilding comp??

Honestly, I hate the whole idea of getting onstage in front of a couple thousand people in my underwear. The whole reason for me is to force me to do things I might not do otherwise. It does make the discipline come easier. I wish I could get into that kind of condition without the carrot goal of a contest. Oh well, thats how I roll. I have to have that damn carrot. I finally go t to where in the last few shows i did I would not even put together a stupid posing routine. I would pick a song and walk out and hit the 7 major poses, hold each one for a few seconds and get he fuk off the stage so I could go home. I figured being a npc judge would be an excellent way to meet loads of very fit women to date..LOL..after a while, I grew somewhat jaded about the entire sport of bodybuilding. Now, I cant stand to have to sit thru one of those boring things and I cant friggin believe I used to spend all day Saturday judging those things. If it werent for the incredible women, I would have never judged a single show. Now, I have dis-associated myself from the entire sport. I do want to compete again, simply for the goal setting power that it has. I would like to set a goal to win a the state title for my age group. I have bulked to 265 right now and I know I have to drop 45 pounds to be competittive. Kind of funny that I really cant stand "bodybuilding" anymore, but will still prob do another show..LOL
I dont understand the new physique class. I saw them at the last show I attended and you 100% CANT see those dudes thighs. Those shorts go to the knees. Its different, thats for sure.
Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

That is basically the only reason I am doing it.....to make me more disciplined to reach my goal. Once I get there, I may not even do it...HAHA! But as long as I get my body in the shape to have the choice, I will be tickled to death. Yeah, you can wear shorter shorts but I don't think they can be any longer than that. Basically, that is how I would be walking around at the beach, so if I can have a good look in those shorts...my goal is accomplished.

Have you ever seen a natural contest? MOst guys look like they dont even lift, so If you do, then just train and diet fairly well and you have a good chance of placing if you look better than the average Joe
