I found a hack squat machine at my gym today, and I've been interested in adding these to my routine. Well, I guess I had NEWBEE written all over my face as I walked around the machine, and this cool BIG broh who was taking a breather asked me if I needed any help. He hooked me up with the operation and DAYUM, that is a cool, stress free move! Next on my list is to figure out dead lifts, which for some reason scare the hell outa me!

I have no qualms about having the big boys show me the right stuff, so it should be a cool learning curve. I'm getting excited about hitting the gym again since I'm learning this new stuff.

Starting strength: basic barbell training is a good book or video that explains in great detail the why and how of proper deadlift and squat technique. They call you paranoid until the worst happens, and in the aftermath they will call you a hero.

Re: Discovered hack squats today
If you are not sure about proper form google it and there will be a ton of stuff, namely look on youtube.
When I have no injuries doing legs is my favorite.
My WO today was:
squats
deadlifts
romanian deadlifts
sprints pulling my sled
pushing my car in neutral
(those last 2 are great, Im addicted to em now)

And I get a cool image of the strongman shows by you mentioning pushing cars and pulling sleds.Hell, I'm gonna keep that pushing the car one in the bank in case I can't get to the gym or need to do something else.

Re: Discovered hack squats today
Would doing dead lifts at a very light wieght benefit because the only leg work outs I get is from my kick boxing thats it. I might do some leg curls and hamstring curls in the gym but thats it. Thats one thing I stopped over 10 years ago was sqautting. I just didnt like squatting so I stopped. But I would incorperate deads if its fine to do lite wieght for reps would that helpDisclaimer: Steroid use is illegal in a vast number of countries around the world. This is not without reason. Re: Discovered hack squats today
Yes, doing light deadlifts for reps is an incredible full body workout...Especially if you dont use wrist straps...Use an over hand grip, not an alternate grip. One of my favorite workouts is to go in and do nothing but deadlifts...6 sets of 10...no straps...by not using straps, you will work your forearms, shoulders, arms, everything...by the last set, you can hardly hold on to the bar...it is good cardio too...I like to do the same with 20 rep sets of squats...
yes deadlifts are similar to squats in the way that it is a WHOLE BODY workout...good form is critical or you will injure your back..done right, deadlifts will strengthen your back...
I have a sled and a harness and a huge tractor tire...Havent used that stuff in a while...Havent tried pushing the car yet. that sounds great.

Re: Discovered hack squats today
Nope an Acura, but pushing a golf cart would still be a good workout. Right now im only 190lbs 5'11 low bf but not really that big, always just strong for my size and I used to do some weightlifting comps a few years back. I run a lot too. Been working for a few years on the best overall routine for athletic performance (think football db).
High rep deadlifts are awesome and they will really jack up your heart rate too and really strengthen your back. My T bar rows always get way stronger when Ive been doing deadlifts. Romanian deads are also good for your back and hammys to burn out with.
