Weekly workout frequency?

  • Weekly workout frequency?

    Is it better to work out 5 days a week working one muscle group per night or 3 days a week working 2 groups a night?

    Right now we do:
    Mon-Chest
    Tue-Arms
    Wed-Shoulders
    Thu-Back
    Fri-Legs

    Is that better/worse than this for example:
    Mon-Chest/Tris
    Wed-Back/Bi's
    Fri-Legs/Shoulders

    Its good to switch it back and forth IMO. I change my split whenever things are getting stale prob every 2 months or so. I just like new routines, keeps me motivated. However, I would do something like chest, legs, back, shoulders, arms. You dont want to do arms the day after chest (prob just worked your tris some) or the day before back or shoulders (sore bis not good for doing back and same for sore tris before shoulders). maybe chest, back, shoulders, legs, arms. I personally just dont like doing back the day after chest, but feel free to mix it up. Just dont stick with the same routine for the next 6 months.

      i've been doing the mon-fri, one body part a day, thing for 6mos...i've been hitting it pretty hard and it very well maybe contributing to my recent injury's (that and the stress and lack of sleep). i'm switching up now to every otherday, put i'll still only do 1 body part a day. for me too do 2 i'd either have too...
      A) do 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening (and i aint got time for that or i'd try it)
      B) or switch starting body part every workout...
      i'd be afffraid of not working the second muscle very well if i was doing all in one workout. for instance...if i SLAM my back...there aint no bicep execizing going on after that, thats gonna be worth a shyt...i kill my arms when i work my back!!! i've went months without even doing bicep exercizes (i hate working arms).
      so, mon (for example) was back and arms and i decided i was doing 2 a day and going 3days on 1 off, then thur would be the next day. i'd do back first mon, then biceps and thurs. i'd do bicep first them back....
      for me, i dont know that i could make this work...alot of times my back is still recovering throu thur

        Yes, i heard the switchin up helps if you reach a plateau and stop seeing results. It shocks the muscle into developing more. Of course i dont do that..I just want to tone, so my workouts are totally dif. It all depends on your goals tho. You do not say what u are trying to accomplish.? I know a guy that switches up, but only does 3 sets of each muscle group all super sets, but he only does 4 day a wk and no more than 1/2hr cardio (low impact).

          I like switching it up and then changing the rotation of muscle groups along with equipment used for the excercises- I try to keep them guessing

            You could do a three day fullbody workout focusing on compound excercises or a four day upperbody/lowerbody split.

              or push pulls. i do those for a bit every year too...i like switching up too them...i'll do monday, all push exercizes, wed legs, fri all pull exersizes. works well

                Today I begin a split 3on/1off
                repeat.

                I've never trained this way but am long overdue for a change up.

                    I am on a 4 day routine and, for which, I switch around after 2-3 mths. Right now
                    Shlders
                    Back/Bi's (alternate Bi's/Tri's)
                    Legs
                    Chest/tri's (alternate chest/back)
                    Plus I alternate Abs/cardio eod
