  • Treadmill calories??

How many calories do you guys usually burn during a treadmill session? Also, how long are your sessions and do you mix sprinting and walking?

If I run at 6mph for 1 hour I burn close to 900 calories.

If I walk at 3mph at an incline of 15 for 1 hour I burn about 700 calories.

when I do the treadmill I always do interval training. I alternate between maybe 1 1/2 to 2 min walking at about 4 mph on 3-5 degree incline then I do sprints for 30 seconds at 10-12.5 mph on 2-4 degree incline. I can only do the sprints at this one gym that I go too because most treadmills don't go up that high or they are crappy and start to shake. I do this for 20-35 min depending on how I feel or what I'm going for. Intervals works really well for leaning up, plus your legs will really burn, esp. your calves. Just start out slow and test it out and see what you can do. It is high intensity so you may want to stretch some first.

This is how I usually do treadmill work. I have a crappy one at home and it is hard to adjust the incline so everything I do is at the same incline. I usually walk at about 3-4 mph for about 2 minutes then run at about 6-8 mph for about 2-3 minutes then repeat.

I think the computer calories on most machines are overstated by 20%. I never do the treadmill, my knees won't take it. I do the eliptical (precor).

You need to have an incline of at least 2% to simulate real walking/running because the belt moves on it's own and you are not propelling yourself. 8% is tough, good job D.
