    how many miles a day should one do to get benefits out of running

    My opinion for the most part on running or jogging is all relative to the intensity. If you are just jogging less than 2% incline at 4 or 5 MPH I would say 1.5 miles AVG.

    I think it is a much better heart beneifit if you run sprints. Science has proven that intense running in short bursts is one of the more effective ways to burn fat as well as an excellent workout for the heart.

    But that is just my opinion.

      I very much agree with that. Boosts the metabolism far more than low intensity. I do short, 40-50 yard sprints...I also love running the steps at teh football stadium

        the best shape i was ever in a started off with a mile run and then would do about 20 40 yard sprints the fat melted off

          we jog 3 miles monday and 1.5 wed and fri...
          i dont because i have bad knees but its a requirement to be able to run 1.5 miles in about 12 and a half minutes..
