Can someone please tell me why walking on an incline at a fast pace is more beneficial when trying to burn fat, rather than running?

Walking on a incline will keep you at your target heart rate for fat burning for a consistent level during the cardio. If you run your heart will be cranking and have more of a cardiovascular benefit than fat burning. Im sure somone else will explain a bit better

Whitetail is right.. best way to put it without getting techinical. Also, the incline works as the resistance.
Another thing to take into consideration is that walking does not jar your knees and lower back. Much less stress.

IVE ALWAYS LIKED WALKING INSTEAD OF RUNNING BETTER ON THE KNEES

            take 220 (-) age (x) 85% and 65%
that will give you your target heart range. also called the fat buring zone. if you train above that for too long you'll start burning muscle instead of fat. walk at an incline for now towards the top of that range for at least 20-30mins 3-5x/wk to burn that fat off.. worry about your cardio endurance later

Incline walking targets the VMO which is very important in patellar tracking. This very beneficial for people with need pain or instability.

imho, this is one of those debateable subjects, in reality i feel it's an issue of bodyfat, nutrition, and what results u want

if you're overweight u can run till your hearts content, imho, when u get down too 12% bf or so, u need to monitor intake, nutrition, and output, especially cardio, i pick 12% because imho, u can notice alot of muscle mass loss with doing too much cardio

You don't want to burn muscle mass, just the fat - that's why incline walking is always more popular esp. for us bodybuilders. I personally do incline max at 15, speed at 3 or 3.5 for 45 mins..and I'm soaked.
