  • Lat-spread problem?

I'm trying to work on back width. Thickness is fine, I can do 130-150lb dumbbell rows 8-10 reps. Pull-ups and pull-downs I'm terrible at. The main problem though, is that whenever I do a front lat spread, my left lat spreads out like it's supposed to and makes that v-taper, but my right lat just won't come out. I'm trying to stretch it, do extra sets just for the right side, practice posing often to try and get a better mind-muscle connection, but I just can't seem to get the right lat to pop out like the left one. Oh, but when i just do a relaxed pose, they both pop out the same amount. One other thing, when doing exercises like one-arm db rows, I can feel the burn much more in my left lat than my right one. What do you guys think might be my problem and how can I go about fixing it? Got my first contest in August and if I can't hit a proper lat spread it won't matter how big and shredded I am, I'll probably get laughed off the stage

It really sounds like you just have much more control over your left lat. Possibly slightly overstated. If the burn in your lat is much more pronounced than your inner and upper back muscles during dumbell rows, I think you do have a better focus on that lat. I'm no physical therapist, but you're on the right track with trying to achieve that ability with your other lat. You're gonna have to get that right lat to flex for competition. Practice practice...good luck.

yeah, once you get where you can hit that right lat and establish that same control, you'll be on point.
