    Re: LIST THE EXERCISES

Anything on a smith machine due to the fact your range of motion is limited to a two dimensional plane thus not requiring stabalizing muscles to be recruited in the lift - and subsequently becoming under developed... Free weights are always better.

i'll disagree on this one. now, for exercises where you know you only go up and down, like military press/bench press, i think its fine. as long as you line yourself up correctly under the bar and get a good feel for it before you actually start the lift, i think its fine. now squats on the other hand...nope. i don't think so. if you want to get injured, go for it...squat in the smith. i also think shrugs are kind of limited in the smith also. basically if you're doing any other exercise in the smith other than a press, then you can possibly injure yourself.

even with presses in the smith you still aren't using your assistor groups which will lead to less growth, strength, and coordination with regards to the movement.

and even if you are properly lined up, that postion may not be ideal for your biomechanics. free weights allow that extra bit of movement that can prevent injury.

We need to define a group. are we talking for us, for beginners or for long time vets?

Upright rows - hard on rotators!

Smith Machine for squats - just not natural.

Any over head tircep exercise - anytime you lengthen a mucle you put more stress on where it's tendon meet the bone.

Cable crossovers - too easy to cheat!

Hack squat - rough on the patella tendon (for those who can't use it right, which is most)

Sissy squat - too much hyperextension of the knee.

Pullovers- it's more effective to use cables so you can bring the arm all the way to the body and still have resistance. Unless, you do them on a steep decline bench, then they are more effective.

DB flies - mainly because the primary muscle you are trying to focus on is no longer under tension when the weights are above your body.
I used to have superhuman powers....until my therapist took them away.

Anything behind the neck (presses or pulldowns)- screws up shoulders
Upright rows - screws up shoulders
Just about anything in a smith machine- not natural at all
Curls in the power rack - this just pisses me off.
