  • Long term side effetcs of ACCUTANE? User's please respond.....

I will be going to the dermatologist in a few days and want her to rx me some accutane...i have had moderate acne for the past 10 years or so and have tries everything from oxy pads to benzamyacine (sp)...nothing seems to really make it all go away...i'm on proactiv nbow and its ok, but not where i want to be.........

.so my question is for accutane users past and present....please tell me of your experience and if it was worth all the side effects...also, what are some of the long term sides (aside from clear skin ), if any??? thanks bros!!!

Go for it. Just make sure you get blood work done frequently (I believe every 2 weeks). I used it in middle school and it improved my quality of life 100%. It's been about 7 years later now, and I still only get minor blemishes from time to time. It used to be horrible. The side effects do suck, especially in the summer because you have to limit sun exposer. Also, MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR LIPS LUBED UP. One more time, MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR LIPS LUBED UP. You'll regret letting them dry out. It looks like shit and hurts like hell.

Took it back in high school and now I'm 35 so it's been awhile. There were no long term side effects but there were plenty of sides while on. Chapped lips, nosebleeds, headaches, and I lost my vision once for about 30 minutes in Calculus class. I had bloodwork done every week or two (can't quite remember) but that was back when it first came out and my doc was very concerned. But it worked wonders and I'd go through it all again.

I used it for 5 months about a year and half ago. Now probably isn't the best time to use it because it makes your skin sensitive to light, so the summer months probably aren't a good time depending on where you live. Accutane works great, though it took about 2-3 months before my acne finally disappeared. Your skin will probably get extremely dry, mine got so dry it started to bleed. Chapped lips are another problem. The only other problem I had was nosebleeds, which I was able to overcome with a saline nasal spray. Overall though I'm glad i went through it because it really does work great. Just make sure you stock up on moisturizers and lip balm. Also, depending on your doctor, you may have to get bloodwork done evrey month. So if you are planning on any cycles, be careful because accutane can put added stress on your liver as well as raise triglyceride levels.
