should my lower back be killin me after i did deadlifts really light at 45 on each end of bar? tried em before like over a year ago and same thing so i never did em... hurts so much i doubt im gonna train today. what should i do?

it probablly means ur lower back is outta shape. it happens to me too when i forget how important doing back extensions and super mans are. DO those 2 excercises 4 times a week and get ur lower back stronger and than try it out and i'll bet u -- u won't be sore any longer.

If it afftects the rest of your training, don't do em'. I have a bad back and I still do them - I'm really thinking about stoping though. It's just not worth risking another injury. I walk funny for a couple days after doing them, that in itself should tell me something.
The burden of originality is one that most people don't want to accept. They'd rather sit in front of the TV and let that tell them what they are suppose to like, what they're suppose to buy, and what they're suppose to laugh at. You have Beavis and Butthead telling you what music you're allowed to like and not like, and you've got sitcoms that have canned laughter that lets you know when to laugh if you're too stupid to know when the joke is. People are too lazy and too stupid to think for themselves because America has raised them that way.

try to strengthed ur lower back muscles, you wont be sore anymore. when ur lower back is outta shape than it's not use to tthe pounding from the deads, but get ur lower back ready first and than do'em.

the back extensions are i'm sure in ur gym. it has two handles and a pad where u can fit ur heels and another pad where u can put ur quards so ur lying face down. than go all the way down (ur waist up is the only thing moving and u need to cross ur arms on ur chest) and than squezze at the top.

supermans -- lye face down with ur arms out in front of u like ur flying. With ur left arm and right leg will lift simualtiously and hold for a second count, do 20 reps. then do both ur arms and legs up at the same time and hold a sec. count. hope this helps

My back problem is from a lapindectomy of the L5/S1 - not muscle weakness. I ruptured it doing squats a few years ago.

Try www.exrx.net for some exercise instructions bro...

then if u have some kind of rupture than ur screwed u shouldnt be doing deads. I'm assuming its from muscle weekness because he never said anything about rupturing. but thats a good link, and goliath maybe u should some excerises like that to help ur back. if u do than all power to u, my bro here has never worked his lower back so maybe it'll help him out.

Rotational core exercises are also very good for strengthening lower back and supporting abdominals. I think there are a few posts about these in the training forum.

Start off with 3/4 deads until your back gets into shape, then go full deads. I too could barely do 225 without not being able to walk the next day, but now im up to a little over 500 for a triple.

You can do all the back extensions you want, but if you dont do heavy deadlifts, youll never get a X-Mas tre on your lower back, big enough to decorate.

Deadlifts, when done correctly, are the 2nd best overall body excercise you can do, only 2nd to squats. When done incorrectly, they can be a nightmare.

I suggest you stay light, until you have the proper form down..then SLOWLY build you way up.

nobody is saying dead lifts are bad -- back extensions I recommanded for him to get shape than he can start with the deads. I too, believe that dead are awesome --- never said that.
