Fina-coffee filter question

I have been cycling for 4 years now and I feel like a newbie again making fina because I have never done it before. so my stupid question is what is the coffee filter for. In basskillers page the directions don't use one but the company that I bought from has one in the kit.

that was my intial guess but I wasn't positive. thanks guys as always good help quick. basskiller I guess I will ask you I have had a few different answers to this question. how much fina will a 4g kit make.

Get the funnel and use the filter. Let it sit overnight and your filter will not clog one bit.
