From a micrbiology standpoint most bacteria don't enter cells. Most antibiotics are targeted to specific parts of the bacterial cell. They usually have minimal effect on the host cell. Levaquin does not interfer with protein synthesis, it interferes with the bacterial ability to copy its DNA. If it can't replicate DNA, it cant divide. That having been said, levaquin and other quinalones have been shown to cause cartilidge problems, but only in high doses.
