  • Fresno police raid Bulldog gang member's home

A Bulldog gang member who was out of jail on community supervision is likely going back to jail after police searched a home Wednesday that the man shares with his mother and seized steroids, marijuana and a computer that was apparently being used for identity theft.Officers with the MAGEC anti-gang task force swooped into a northeast Fresno neighborhood west of Kastner Intermediate School about 4 p.m. to serve the warrant after the man was detained during a meeting with his probation officer. Sgt. Paul Cervantes said police believed that Luis Canales, 38, had weapons in the home and taking him into custody before the search made serving the warrant safer for officers and neighbors.
Heavily armed officers escorted Canales' mother out of the home before launching the search as Canales himself watched it unfold from the back of a police cruiser.
Police found no guns in the home, but a search by a police dog uncovered several types of steroids packaged for sale, pills that might be Ecstasy or other drugs, hypodermic needles filled with what appeared to be liquid methamphetamine and a large bag of marijuana ready to be converted into hashish, Cervantes said.

In addition to the drugs, police found credit reports for several people on Canales' computer and called in cyber crimes detectives to assist with the investigation.
Cervantes said an added benefit of arresting Canales and executing the search is that the new crimes that he will face will probably keep him in jail instead of outside on community supervision release.
"He will be stuck until he goes to court," Cervantes said. "If it was a probation violation, well, good luck with that."
