A Buffalo, N.Y., man was sentenced in federal court this week to two years of probation for importing illegal steroids from China when he lived in Pittsburgh, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
Prosecutors said that in May 2008, Anthony Gianetti, 27, took delivery of a package at the Monroeville Post Office containing six types of anabolic steroids shipped from the People's Republic of China. He pleaded guilty in October to one count of importing steroids.
Chief U.S. District Court Judge Gary L. Lancaster said the sentence of probation and 150 hours of community service was more lenient than the sentencing guidelines of eight to 14 months of prison. He said Gianetti was young at the time of the crime and has since been a good student.
