According to the reports of Health Sciences Authority, to get rid of chronic pains like arthritis etc, hundreds of people these days prefer taking the illegal 'black honey pills'. These pills are laced with a powerful steroid, and can work miracles on such conditions, but at the same time can lead to several other illnesses.
Recently, two middle-aged women fell ill with Cushing's syndrome, which is known to be a hormonal disorder caused by long-term use of steroid. After analyzing them it was found that both these women were taking black honey pills to treat their arthritis pain.
Other dangers that continuous consumption of steroids can cause include lowered immunity, high blood pressure and increased blood sugar levels which, in turn, can lead to diabetes.
The black honey pills are known by their Chinese moniker heimiwan, and are sold in unlabelled packing in clear plastic container. Each bottle with about 100 pills costs for $35 to $80.
With the help of some tricky techniques, sellers of such pills usually target elders and instead of sellin these pills from shops, they prefer doing it through dubious means like makeshift stalls.
