    Re: Always Aspirate!!!

All right, heres my opinion from someone with 20 years of medical experience. There is no need to aspirate an IM(intra muscular) injection because your in the muscle. if you give an IM injection properly, your nowhere near a vein.Nothing to aspirate. The only time you need to aspirate is when injecting meds IV(vein). Meds given IV take effect within seconds as compared to IM(10-15 minutes). If your administering a med IV, It is usually because you need the effects to happen now. Also for example, a diabetic takes their insulin but doesn't eat. Blood sugar drops. They need Dextrose IV now. We always make sure our IV is patent by aspitating or verifying the flow because Dextrose(simple sugar) will cause necrosis(eat away) at muscle tissue and really F someone up!!!

Your veins run up and down the body, mostly at a 90 degree angle to any needle you stick in yourself. You may nick a vein periodically but the odds of hitting a vein, keeping the needle in it and not blowing it would be rare at best.
As far as the comment about being in an artery, not likely. Arteries are deep within your body where as veins lay on the outside for a good reason. Arteries flow oxygenated blood from your heart and lungs at high pressure where as veins are low pressure of unoxygenated blood returning to your heart.Your blood pressure is taken from your arterial pressure. Also since the artery is high pressure, they WILL NOT clot on their own. It will take significant pressure to stop the bleed as compared to light pressure on a vein.

Although I don't know for sure, I doubt there would be any harm from injecting Juice into a vein or artery directly. I think that it will simply enter the body's blood flow much quicker. If a med like Morphine directly into the vein or artery doesn't kill you, I doubt roids will. The dosage given IM would be at a higher Mg as compared to IV due to the absorbtion rate.
Blood pressure 70-80 lbs?? Way to high. Blood pressure is in mmhg or milimeters of Mercury.I doubt our pressure in lbs. would be even 10 lbs of pressure.

      Re: Always Aspirate!!!

Thanks for all the opinions and everyone's experiences. Because I've been around for awhile, one of the first things I learned was to aspirate. Blood pouring into the syringe was a scary thing for me, but apparently I must have nicked a vein. Either way, thanks for clearing up aspiration!
