the 1 1/2 shouldn't be a problem but I caution using any pin that isn't securely buried. If you do happen to pass through something, i.e. a vein, youmay not know it but if youmove the pin in or out you may end up directly in the vein.
So you can use the 1 1/2 but bury it or cut the shield back so it can't go any deeper than you intend.
