RE-filtering vials?

Does anyone re-filter their vials just to be safe when they get them?

Would this be suggested (through .2 um) to make sure they are free from particles/dust?

I dont... i guess it couldnt hurt.. i always think, between the ba, the bb and the small size pinz.. chances are greater you will hit a nerve and get hurt.. but thats just me..

well you can't go wrong. But then again opening a vial and recapping it is alot of trouble. Also you might get somthing in it yourself. If there is something in it that you can see then yes, but if not I wouldn't bother. Like myself I filter my stuff twice before botteling it. Many others do the same.

if it's a well known lab, i wouldn't worry too much...

if it's a friend of urs or so that did it, i would probably do it...

btw a .45 will get most of the particles..... a .2 will get out most of the bacteria as well..... (they usually tend to be 0.21-0.50um in size)

I was planning on getting new steril vial, inserting 2 needles into it, one for air, the other for a filter, and then syringing the oil through the filter into the new steril vial. Would that pretty much be a safe/good way? I wonder about the 2 holes then in the vial, dont the small holes allow for particles/air? (yes I have never done this before so please bear with my novice questions)

who's making the gear? i wouldn't worry too much about it... the BA usually kills eventually everything that's in there...

and don't worry about the 2 holes, lol... i used be like that too when i just started..... i used to microwave the friggin coffee filters lol...
u should be careful and clean when doing it, but such minute things are totally irrelevant...

Buying pre-capped sterile viles are the way to go if you want to do this.

Use an 18g pin with a 45iu whatman and 10cc syringe. Then take a 22-25g pin and stick it through the top of the vial you are refiltering into. This pin will allow air inside to be pushed out as you refilter into the vial and it is sterile.

Its not that I dont trust it, its more of a precautionary measure for my own peace of mind

Brother, i say do it.. if you will be more comfortable refiltering.. just do it.. honestly, i think you are going to do it anyway.. so just refilter.. then you will have the peace of mind. I would draw it all up in one syringe, throw on the filter and refill.. easy and effective..

Thanks- yeah I will do it then jsut to have that extra measure of safety for my peace of mind. As long as me doing it doesnt introduce a possiblity for it to get contaminated I think its not a bad idea at all
