Both Minoxidil and Finasteride are DHT blockers, you can topicaly administer both of these if you do not want to take a pill., they make Finasteride lotion for topical, I imagine you could probably also get the liquid from a Reaseach chem supplier and do the same with it.

I posed this same question 2 months back, went with Nioxin, and have been very pleased. Gotta be religious about using it though.

I used proscar in the past for about 2 years or so I suppose. Did it work? Hard to say, really. I think it slowed down the thinning (which really isn't/wasn't too bad---but I'm vain). I recently quit do to side effects. The lack of sex drive (as much as I tried to ignore it) plus the mental fog that proscar seemed to put me in (I'm not exaggerating on this either) seemed more detrimental than the 'possible' positive hair retaining effects. Once I quit my hair seemed to be falling out left and right, but it eventually recovered and right now I'm basically where I was when I quit. Thank God I recovered, the shedding was SCARY!

I still use minoxidil (only on the temples---I used to use it over most of my scalp), but mainly I rely on 3 grams of MSM per day and a good prescription anti-inflammatory shampoo as I've had scalp health issues.

I also haven't cycled in a pretty long time, so I assume that would be the true test.

finasteride or dutasteride tabs
saw palmetto soft gels
spironolactone (sp?) cream
nizoral 2% shampoo

Depending on genetics and several other variables this combo should help you keep or possibly even grow back a little hair.

I'm with big mofo, shave it and you won't miss it..a lot of women love the shaved look, unless you got one of those weird shaped heads...lol

i've tried a lot of stuff... including finasteride and those shampoos and creams and crap... but i just can't keep it up for ever.... i always quit after couple of months.....

If you're really concerned about hairloss, just set aside some funds for a future possible transplant procedure. Nowadays with a good doctor, you can get a very natural looking, decent head of hair. Just do as much research as possible before deciding on a doctor.
