    Re: ABCESS?

I got one in my quad once. It had to be cut out and they put in a PICC line and I had to run Vancomycin for 14 days. It sucked and my quad will never look the same. I had thought it was just the gear, but after about 5 days I could barely walk anymore.

There is definetely a difference between a painful shot and an abscess.I had an abscess several months ago and I was out of comission for about 2 weeks in serious pain, could barely walk, had a fever, some serious swelling.it sucked.some shots gave me alot of pain, and some a fever, but not even close to the abscess.I was lucky that I didnt have to have it cut out but we did try to drain it which wasnt fun,if the antibiotics didnt start to work right away the doctors said i would have to go on an I.V.so be safe and get it checked out..

one thing,I always tell the doctors a story so I dont have to listen to the"you know son, steroids are bad for you"garbage that you always get if you walk in without explaining why you do them.I let him know I am a fighter, bouncer, etc,so it saves me the greif.always a good idea if you have to go in to the doc.

the inital stages can be hard to pick i think.....if it goes longer than 3-4 days or the pain swelling becomes worse then it should really u shouldnt wait, my buddy wait and it kinda spread, was in his groin area by the time they cut it and it was nasty as hell.....one tip is if u are shooting in the quads with some gear that is known to you to cause pain do your shot then go do your leg workout.

What exactly causes an abcess anyway? dirty gear or too much of it one location? or both?

A site injection irritation will not turn into an abcess. Two different things although initially they would appear similar. An abcess will continue to worsen until enough pressure causes it to burst. Also an abcess is due to an infection. Dirty needle or rubber cap. Always wipe of the rubber stopper before drawing out with alcohol.Site irritation will only worsen to a point when get better. I took T-400 Denkall and had site irritation. One time for over a week and I had a baseball size not on my ass and VERY painful. Pop 1600 mg of Ibuprofen and that should help. If so repeat again. Some people flip out over high Ibuprofen MG's but you'd have to take 4000mg daily for 2 months to cause problems.

bacteria - plain and simple. I suspect I got mine because I was in a hurry and didn't properly prepare the injection site. I just loaded the pin and shot it. It was a stupid mistake that I had made many times before without consequences. But, it only takes one to teach you the lesson.

My infection was an MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) that by the time they cut it out was about the size of a pop can. It was literally eating the muscle in my leg and the waste product of the bacteria was building up. I was in the hospital for 3 days, on cruches for a week, and had a line put in through my arm that ran all the way to my heart and I had to pump IV antibiotics for 3 hours a day for 2 weeks. I lost about 25 pounds of muscle in about 3 weeks.

Short Version: clean your injection site. I don't worry about shit in the gear itself, because the alcohol will kill that. It is the bacteria thqat we all have living on our bodies at all times that can get you.
