Re: Ever wonder how they did it?

It kind of sounds like BS to me, but I have not done any research in the area of "plasma expanders". Sounds to be a thing used for "vascularity" to me.

Also about the old school guys...their contest prep consisted of gaining weight for the show and not cutting like they do today.

Arnolds encyclopedia explained how he would ADD calories and training volume weeks out before a show. The heaviest Arnold came in for a show was 255# and he GAINED weight for the show.

These help to increase blood volume, causing more water to be pulled into the body off your skin. Hungarian Beast has it right, this technique is used to achieve a very vascular, ripped look that is sought after by many bodybuilders. Of course, it is full of risks, that's why you'd need to seek the assistance of a professional in order to make sure it is applied properly.

The more I learn about professional bodybuilding, the more I get the impression that many athletes (professional and amateur) are pushing the envelope too far. Doing a few cycles is already detrimental to your health, but at least your body can tolerate steroids. Plasma Expanders though?! I mean, c'mon, you're fucking with your blood and your heart now. I understand that these guys are professionals, but I think risking your life to win a competition is a little extreme.

I agree. I will never compete in BBing. I don't agree with the use of diuretics, etc... My only goal is to be large and strong. Maybe some strongman competition in the future.

I agree with the above two comments COMPLETELY. Things have gone too far and have been that way for many years now. In my opinion, they had it right in the early days. Everything was kept to a minimum. That's why you don't ever hear about them having any serious health problems. They are true models of our sport and what it should stand for. HEALTH, SIZE, STRENGTH, and HEALTH again. If you examine their diets, while a little too hight in protein (still okay, though), it was fantastic. They ate fruits, veg, protein, drank plenty of water, took their vitamins, and exercised for a LIVING!!! One's lifestyle simply can't get much better than that. Juice, to them, was only a side note. And to hear them talk about it, is just unbelievable. They are just amazed at the dosages/means taken today. It's entirely uneccessary and if that's what the new guys want to do, then unfortunately, they will have to pay the price. I look up to many of them and would HATE to see that happen....my 2 cents...shiner

No, not really. GH causes PERMANENT growth to internal organs, bone, etc... The internal organ growth in the cause of the large guts. Insulin in often used in conjunction with GH, but the insulin does not cause the permanent growth in tissues other than muscular.

Don't go trying to pump it in your little peepee now. It doesn't work like that.

True, the only thing Arnold lacked was beg thighs. He had great lines throughout his whole body but his quads were just a little too small for his upper body.

It won't stop until the judging changes. They reward sheer size over balance and proportion at all these pro shows. I'd like to see someone w/ a physique like Shawn Ray win the O.
