Re: ACUTANE AND A CYCLE
No need to get defensive. I wasn't even talking about what you said - just what i know people will say based on it having come up in the past. Thats why I said take it to PM.
But if you want to debate it, I'm more than happy to do so. As you are the one stating that it is dangerous (I know you didn't say that word, but that is your implication) you should be able to back it up.
For my part I can say that if you are using tane through a derm you will be getting regular blood tests. Only a blood test can tell you what's going on. Everything else is pure speculation. Tane is not nearly as hard on your system as everyone makes it out to be (usually people who have never taken it). Just as steroids, even orals, aren't as hard on your system as many people preach. Now, I'm not recommending that people go on tane, take a heavy oral cycle, and then go drinking every night, but again - many people probably could without suffering negative side effects.
I've had my blood work done while on tane both before starting my cycle and after and there was no change. Not even a minor one. All of my numbers are good, nothing even marginally bad. That doesn't mean it will be that way for everyone, it just means that it is that way for me and more importantly, I know what is going on because of my regular bloodwork. If something were to change I can adjust what I'm doing as necessary.
Again, edvedr, I'm not trying to attack you for looking out for the guy - I just think he should get more information that is relevant to his question. After all, he asked if anybody has been on tane and a cycle, as I have, I'm one of the people he is directly asking.

Re: ACUTANE AND A CYCLE
good explanation bro, but let me explain why i won't even recommend it. most people who come to this board and ask question are at a different level in this game than lets say me or you. you might be aware enough to take the extra risk, get ur bloodwork done and do whats meant to be done, but most will not. shit alot of guru still don't get their blood check on a regular basis. the way i look at it is if he asks the question then he most likey is not ready to take the extra precations but if he is ready then he will find out what ur sayin thru his own research. otherwise he most likey will take what u say and really only here "yeah u can do it" i assume this cause it was the way i was when i first started. sometimes they don't care if its really ok or not, they just wanna hear someone say it is.
and justgettinbig, i'm sorry if my assumptions of you are incorrect, but i rather assume that and give out more safe advice seein i don't know you.

Re: ACUTANE AND A CYCLE
Excellent point edvedr, and one I clearly overlooked in my haste to answer. I will definitely agree that anyone who takes accutane, or steroids for that matter, should be getting regular bloodwork done. Anyone who isn't is taking a huge gamble with their body. Once you get the work done, you will at least know that everything is okay or adjust what you are doing until it is.
I don't understand how people can spend the money on AAS and food, and put in all the time in the gym, and then not go spend a few bucks on bloodwork to see if they are screwing themselves up.

Re: ACUTANE AND A CYCLE
I did accutane on my 2nd cycle when i was younger. My only advice is tell your derm that you are using aas so that they can monitor your blood tests. My tests stayed good it didnt seem that it effected it"what, shut up"

Re: ACUTANE AND A CYCLE
Here is the most recent word from the FDA on Accutane.
The two major concerns with tane (and the first being the FDA's most significant) are:
1. women who use the drug and get pregnant are at extreme risk of having babies with significant birth defects.
2. some people report feeling depressed and even suicidal (although most of this appears to be fueled by an aggressive plaintiff's bar).
Even with those risks, I have yet to see anyone at the FDA recommend in good faith a ban on tane. They merely want more protection on its distribution.

Re: ACUTANE AND A CYCLE
edvedr made some good points.
Accutane is a form of vitamin A where Roche pharm found a way to to separate the retinal portion from the beta carotene portion and found a great drug that shrinks the sebaceous glands. Now, what needs to be monitored while on Accutane? Liver enzymes and lipid profile. More specifically from the lipid profile, tryglicerides. It is common knowledge that AS puts some stress on your liver so being on both COULD be a problem. Will it be deadly... no. Could it cause liver problems if cycled with a heavy AS use... yes! It depends on your cycle.

Not to discount your sources, because you do at least have them, but let's put them into context:
1. Lawmakers "call" for things all the time that never happen. Nothing in your sources say anything other than that a few members of congress called for a ban. Even then, the "ban" was really just pulling it off the market until the FDA put its new safeguards into action. There is nothing about pulling it off the market permanently.
2. And more relevant, if you look at the date on all of these stories about lawmakers calling for action (or a ban) they are back in October - one month BEFORE the FDA announced its intention to improve restrictions as a result of the February 2004 conference. The congressional members who were calling for a ban were doing so because the FDA had not implemented its own recommendations from 8 months earlier.
They aren't going to ban Accutane (or at least I haven't seen anything to suggest they will) they just want to make sure the proper safeguards are in place. People have been "calling" for a ban on Accutane since 1988 - it hasn't happened yet (which obviously doesn't mean it can't happen - just that there has been no compelling evidence that it should happen.).
