HE GOT IT WEDNESDAY BUT SEEING HIS DOCTOR TOMORROW.

the only major danger from taking antibiotics is that the viruses that the antibiotics kill are starting to build up immunities to antibiotics. they are over prescribed for the most part, and so if this continues, they may have problems in the future.

Antibiotics do not kill viruses -- only bacteria. Viruses must run their course.

Depends on the severity of the infection within the absess -- could be keflex, or just plain old Pen VK or ampicillin.

If it is just warm and red and hot -- no fever, it may just pass. I have had that happen plenty of times -- and so has my husband. If he has a red line running from the injection site, I would worry...but if he has no fever, I would doubt it is infected.

Fuzo -- I would not worry about it then. You should see the nasties that my husband gets sometimes. And the lump lasts for a while...I can feel the heat coming thru.

If there is a red line OR a fever, then I would make a trip to the doctor -- otherwise I would ride it out for a little while...most likely it will clear up on its own.

Unless it is a severe infection, nothing works better than an old-fashioned hot poultice made by applying boiled white clay mixed with fine chopped cooked onions directly on the site, and then wrapping with a hot wet linen compress. I have done this many times, and often the inflamation and soreness are gone in about 24 hours.
