It's an amino acid by the name of gamma-amminobutyric acid. Initially prescribed for anxiety, it raises GH levels and gives a good night's sleep...also something that has taken a turn for the worse in the direction of rec drugs and after party effects.
I got severe hives. At first everything was good...I was given it as a nerve blocker for my screwed up C Spine. Felt a good, overall mood start. Then, the itching started. Was told to stop because it was spreading to my throat. Allergic reactions are common with the itching.

I know a young man who used it to enhance his sleep during cycles. Got very addicted to it. Coming off was a nightmare and lead to severe depression....SEVERE.
As used for what Torchy has described -- by a doctor that is one thing.....nerve blockers are critical to treat patients, such as Torchy's C-spine condition.
However, I would prefer to keep the conversation of it as a recreational drug of sorts or as an enhancement off the board.
