First off,Happy holidays to all members of FG!!Im fresh out of the hospital with a neck and back injury.I blew a disc in my neck and four in my lower back.Im now the proud owner of a titanium plate in my neck and two stainless steel rods in my back held together with eight of the biggest screws they could possibly use. After all the tradgedy with pain meds,I hope I dont become addicted to my medication(oxycontin)but right now I cant function without it.My doc says,I need to look for other employment(laborer)and my gym days are over.I figure I would just stop pushin heavy weight and rep out instead.Has anyone else had these injuries?I refuse to giveup the gym,I went today and did cardio and some light leg work,it felt great!!Has anyone out there beaten the odds. PEACE BENNYBOOM Shoul I stay away from gear for awhile???

That sucks bro. I had a back surgery 10 yrs ago from a weightlifting injury (slipped, ruptured, bulging disk that pinched my ciatic nerve). The pain never really ends completely but don't get hooked on that oxy bro (GU is gone cause of it)...I have many friends that did and their lives are or were miserable. As for lifting...I am back strong as ever, I just don't do squats, deadlifts, or bent over rows. I don't know how you went to the gym that soon though. I was bed confined for 2 wks after surgery and then phy therapy for a couple months. I had to learn how to walk again basically. By the way, how'd you hurt it?

Yes, six years ago, and two surgeries later, heavy lifting days are over, repping out and cardio is where it is at, start low and slow and find your groove, the human body will let you know.
Good Luck, it was the hardest thing I ever went through in life, I spent three months in bed, got the same reccomendations etc. , just got back in the gym, which was embarrasing, can you imagine a healthy looking guy struggling with just the Olympic Bar on Bench Press, well, it was a tad embarrasing for sure, yet, in the end it was the iron in my hands that made me stronger.
Be safe, and smart and all will be well.
good luck

Go to a pain specialist!! It's a must! You need to get off Oxy asap! They can probably do blocks instead and you won't have the risk of addiction, it's a goddamn killer!leankid@ziplip.com
Not around much more, because my job blows, but damn I miss you folks!!
R.I.P. Geared Up, you are missed my friend!

Thanks for the input,my neck was due to squats,I remember the day I did it.The bar pressed so hard into the back of my neck,I immediately felt dizzy and light headed and weak in the legs. The room actually started to spin.My legs constintantly felt numb and every step was an effort, those were my sympthoms. My back was due to years of abuse on the job.The neck operation was bad but the back operation(8hrs)was life changing.I dont ever want to go through that again.I have an appointment with a pain specialist and will begin rehab in March.I will just have to work on that chiseld look, high reps are a killer and with all the weight I lost ,Im well on my way. PEACE BENNYBOOM
