The chemical term 4-hydroxy-19-nortestosterone refers to the isomer: 4,17beta-Dihydroxyestr-4-en-3-one. 4-hydroxy-19-nortestosterone is a natural anabolic / androgenic metabolite of 4-hydroxy-19-norandrostenedione, which is an analog of the naturally occurring dietary supplement 19-norandrostenedione
4-Hydroxy-19nortestosterone cannot directly convert to estrogen due its 4-hydroxylation as well as unlike most 19-nor derivatives it has NO progestational effects due to this 4-hydroxylation. The non progestational activity is the most unique attribute since 19-nor compounds are thought to increase progestins and thus lead to a decreased libido and in male animals heighten gynocomaestic potential. Furthermore the 4-hydroxylation increase the compounds anabolic to androgenic ratio as the compound has a very low androgenicity.
This creates a compound identical to the more well known nandrolone decanoate (trade name : Deca Durabolin), but without the ability to have a progestational effect and also a higher anabolic ratio with lowered androgenicity which curtails any masculinizing effects when administered to female animals.
