Intercepted Package Leads To Steroid Bust On Upper East Side

An intercepted package en route from Taiwan to an apartment on the Upper East Side led police and customs agents to an illegal steroid bust Tuesday.

Agents and police officers said they confiscated thousands of pills and vials, as well $2 million in cash at an apartment on 74th Street near York Avenue.

Richard Burack, 51, was arrested Tuesday morning. He is charged with second degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Investigators say the probe started after customs agents in San Francisco intercepted a package from Taiwan addressed to Burack's apartment.

NEW YORK -- Police seized thousands of doses of illegal steroids and $2 million in cash Tuesday during a raid on a Manhattan apartment.

Investigators targeted the home on East 74th Street after federal agents in San Francisco intercepted a package containing steroids on Nov. 17. The package, from Taiwan, had been mailed to the Manhattan address.

Along with the cash, officers discovered about 10,000 steroid pills. Also found were about 11,000 vials containing steroids in liquid form, police said.

One suspect was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
