  • the mysteries of slin

i worked out today did my 12 iu of humalog drank my post workout shake with 80 grams of dextrose and protein (i have used this amount of dextrose for some time with no probs). i get home and start to piddle around on here sipping gatorade while my wife cooked dinner. i have never been hypo before. it came on suddenly when i tried to get up out of my chair. i have done this same routine for over 2 months with no probs. i gulped down the rest of my gatoraide and ate 15 grams of glucose. i feel better now.

my question, why did it all of the sudden do this when i am so anal about my carbs after use. i am putting it sub q in my belly and i did notice that it bled a little when i pulled the pin. could pushing it in a area that has more capillaries that i busted or a small vein? shit i am a little spooked. i handled it well but goes to show ya this stuff can be tricky. now my gut is so full i am going to have to force myself to eat dinner in a few minutes.

    careful with ilin

Do you test your blood sugar before your shot?
I am a type 1 diabetic and I can tell you that 15 ui of humalog will drop your glucose level about 400-450 points in about 1 hour.
With that much insulin you should be taking about 175g of carbs.

The general ratio is 1 ui per 15g.

Also remember if you are inject in the belly and you do sit-ups or such, that your insulin is more sensitive. As if you were to inject in your thighs and then run.

Also if you drink any alcohol will supper is cooking, that your liver will process the alcohol first, and not be able to release emergency glucose if you go hypo.

Just be careful, roids kill you over time, but insulin only takes one wrong dose.

thanks bro i started with 10 grams per iu and went down from there and i dont check B sugar either probably a good idea. and i dont drink very often and never on a night i workout. your last statement is very true. with the 80 grams of dextrose i drink the gatoraide adding another 20 grams or so then dinner before the log peaks with 70-100 grams of carbs most complex. like i said i have never had a prob before thanks for the info.

You need more high glycemic carbs directly post workout, 10 per iu is a minimum, i usually go 120 with 10 ius and and so on and have never had major problems like that.

          Test quip

if you r trying to gain weight, use 15ui and use a weight gainer drink after work out. They usually have about 150 g per shake.
Definitely pick yourself up some test strips and a tester.

Only thing is, weight gainers contain fat, and you DO NOT WANT fat while slin is peaking unless you want to become the blob.

thats why i use whey and dextrose. i guess i have taken the carb intake to the minimum with 7 grams per iu then 20 grams or so more after i get home. this is the first time i have ever been hypo. i will bump it 20 grams or so to play it safe.

I have thought of this before. I think that timing of carbs is essential. Because we are normal individuals, we squirt out slin from the pancreas as soon as it is needed. Say you inject 15 IU of slin, which starts to work after 30 minutes. If you eat lots of carbs right after the injection, the exogenous slin is not kicking in yet, and thus your pancreas releases slin for these carbs. After 30 minutes however, the exogenous slin kicks in, so now you have endogenous + exogenous slin, and you can feel hypo. IMO it is essential to time your carbs, not too early and not too late.

Happend to me once that I think I injected into a vein in my skin. I felt severly hypo within 3 minutes. Furtunately I have lots and lots of dextrose with me, and I got out of hypo, but it still took 30 minutes of severe sweating and lightheadedness.
