  • BODYFAT..how low is too low?

when it comes to BF, how low is too low as far as health is concerned....Im talking about a low percentage that can be maintained over a long period-lets say the summer for instance (not a one day competition type deal)..how low can you keep your Body Fat w/out risking safety...????

I got down to 4.2 one time, had freaky veins in my lower abs and stuff, and I was told that really long term maintenance below about 10% was tuff on the body. I was sorta obsessed for about 8 mos, would go for several days and not eat ANY fat to speak of, plus I was running alot. I head you need some bodyfat in case you, like get sick or something..plus I was burning alot of muscle tissue, too I think

im 7% all year. just a skinny lil *****. genetics. i have heard under 4% is bad on you. but i have a friend/workout buddy that is around 3-3.5% all year but he has the strictest diet EVER. no fat, all meat, tiny carbs.. he ate 976 lbs of red meat in one semester of school. hes nuts.

i would say 7-10% would be ok to consist around. still vascular and always cut. looks great.

pl456 i know about those veins, they are beautiful arent they. i love when i get a really good pump either from abs, or running. the bulge out soo much, but i can see them normally. i know i know im a lil scronny ***** sorry guys.

3-4% shouldnt be maintained for longer than maybe a week.

I read somewhere that dropping below 4% can pose some serious health risks.

Course, I'll never have to worry about that..lol

You can stay between 8-10% without competition dieting as long as you eat clean and have a good workout/cardio regimen. I'd say anything below 8% for a long period of time would be harder to get at unless your genetics all you to easily. Some bodybuilders get to 3% or high 2% range.
