  • Aspirating???

    Hey bros

When you aspirate during an injection (assuming you haven't hit a vein) what kind of substance enters the barrel?

How much blood enters before you realise that you may have hit a vein?

Sorry for the dumbass newbie questions.

    Thanks, Gymjock

hi there mate, im a newbie as well as far as AS goes, but i work in a hospital where i take blood alot.. if your in a vein the syringe will fill very quickly so if you can draw off more than 1cc of blood your a bit close, usually you will just get a small bit of discolouration from small capallliary vessels that have been punctured on the way in and sometimes a tiny air bubble will enter the syringe, then your in a muscle and not inside a vein..

Nothing enters the syringe; you create a vacuum, which will appear as air bubbles. The vacuum will cause the plunger to spring back when you let go of it.

If you start to draw blood the syringe will fill immediately and the plunger will not spring back when you let go.

If you hit an artery you won’t even have to pull on the plunger, arterial pressure will force blood into the syringe.

Do not inject that area if you see blood. Find another spot and try again.

yea, you will know when you draw blood..it will look just like blood. otherwise, you should just be drawing up a lil bit of air.

                Yup!

It's a fairly easy process that takes all of 2 seconds...after you do it once you'll realize how easy it is
