  • Deadlift - New Personal Best

I just deadlifted 475 X 1 last Wednesday. This is 50 lbs. more than my last max attempt a couple months ago.

My workout started out really good.

    Deads
    135 x 8 (warm up)
    225 x 10 (easier than usual)
315 x 8 (went up easier than usual and got me feeling good)
455 x 2 (solid and went up without a hitch)
    475 x 1 (took every bit I had left)

For some reason I just had a lot of energy and felt great last week.

Good job man, hittin pr's makes for a great day! I bet if you had tweaked your warmups a little you would have gotten 500. You pull conv. or sumo?

I pull conventional with a staggered grip. My feet are about shoulder width apart and some comment that they are surprised I can pull that much weight given my narrow stance. I know sumo is easier but, the conventional stance just feels right to me.

I am going to hit deads again tomorrow (Wednesday). Hopefully I can add 10 lbs. to my last lift with a less intense warm up.

nice bro. i hit 460 during a power lifting competition in November with no straps or wraps or chalk. I hit 500 the other week with some chalk and a good warm up. keep it up bro. I use a conventional stance too. My cousin who competes in the Highland games and stuff is always saying " I lift like a bodybuilder" He gave me a few pointers and some DVD's and things are coming along. keep it up bro.... kite has tons of exp in powerlifting.

I hit my first 500 pullin conv. but then I just hit a wall at 545. For some reason I just never felt like I could get into a good position. I still train conv. in the rack from various heights ranging from just above the knee to 4" below the knee and on alternating weeks I pull sumo off the floor based on percentages ranging from 60% to 82.5%.

                  Thanks guys!

I do all my deads from the floor. We don't have a power rack at my gym (lame).

Can you give me any tips on increasing my deads using a conventional stance?

Do stiff legs off of blocks 2-3" or just stand on plates, do full range dl off of blocks or plates, good morinings, speed work against bands, low box squats wide and close stance and hit your hams and glutes hard as fukk.

I'll see if I can dig up a routine that Brent "Sgt. Rock" Howard printed up awhile back and post it for ya.
