  • Hey Rev

When you're hittin board presses, do you stick with a set board for a couple of weeks or alternate heights each time? I was talkin with Brad V no too long ago about this and he usually sticks with a set board height for 3 weeks then changes.

This is what I'm doing for this cycle up to the Jan 20 meet...

10 weeks out: 3 bds triples, 5 shirted sets
9 weeks out: 3 bds doubles, 5 shirted sets
    8 w/o: 3 bds singles, 5 shirted sets
    7 w/o: 2 bds doubles, 5 shirted sets
    6 w/o: 2 bds singles, 5 shirted sets
    5 w/o: 1 bd doubles, 4 shirted sets
4 w/o: 1 bd singles, 4 shirted sets [I've completed to here as of now]
    3 w/o: touch doubles, 3 shirted sets
    2 w/o: touch singles, 3 shirted sets
1 w/o: touch light singles up to opener 2-3 shirted sets

Bill Carpenter and Rob Luyando have told me that they go no lower than 2 boards 'cuz they don't think the difference between 2 and 1 is significant and they like to save the shoulders. For me, I like that extra step as I gradually brings me down to where I can touch easily and there is no big difference to overcome, only 1.5 inches each step.

I know a lot of guys over on FI say shirted boards are stupid, but I really like them because they allow a lot more volume and top end work without the added week in/week out stress on my shoulders. I go to the chest 2-3 weeks before contest so I'm sure I can touch and groove the bar right.
    Peace,
    RevTodd

Cool, thanks man. Like I said I know Bill and Brad do shirted boards and you certainly can't argue with their numbers.
