At a meet this past Saturday, she opened with an 85 pound bench, 95, then 100 pounds @ 10 years of age. She'll be breaking hearts and records for some time to come.
Taken from her parents web site (Iron Asylum Gym):
Kerri has been interested in benching since the first time she saw a bench. She kept insisting that we let her try it.
In an attempt to satisy her curiosity and to basicly keep her out of our hair, we bought her a child's bench for Christmas in 2002. She would get into a pretty good arch on it (better than mom and dad's), and she would get really focused.
Well it didn't take long before we thought it would be cute to get her a bench shirt. Nothing with extreme support, just something she could put on to feel like a bencher. Gave Karin Klein a call, and in pretty much hours, we had a shirt...yeah Karin and Doug thought it was a hoot too.
Well it kinda grew from there. She went to the gym a few times. She blew us away with what she could put up without effort, so it just snowballed from there.
We were holding a meet in February 2004, and decided she would be our guest lifter. She went 3 for with lifts of 45-50-55. All white lights!!! She opted not to take a fourth, as the butterflies were pretty huge. She gained instant celebrity status, and was absolutely hooked.
Kerri's latest accomplishments include an invite to the WPO Finals at the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio. She benched 88 lbs @ 62 lbs bodyweight.
