I used to work at GNC and we sold products like myoblast and pinnacle makes a protein powder with myostatin blockers. Has anyone used these and gotten good results ?

Re: Flex Wheeler
To whom it may concern:
I am writing this letter per the request of Flex Wheeler.
I would first like to briefly provide you with some background information regarding BALCO Laboratories. BALCO has been working with elite Olympic and professional athletes for over fifteen years. BALCO has provided testing and consultation for over 250 NFL players including the entire 1998 Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos team and the entire Miami Dolphins team. BALCO works with professional athletes in many sports including teenis (Michael Chang, Jim Courier, etc.), hockey, bodybuilding (10 of the 16 1998 Mr. Olympia contestants), track and field, soccer and basketball (Seattle SuperSonics).
BALCO Laboratories has been testing and monitoring Flex on a routine basis during the last year. We have performed tests including blood chemistry (SMAC), complete blood count (CBC), PSA, anabolic hormone levels, genotyping as well as comprehensive testing for nutritional elements. Flex's test results have been compared to twenty-four other professional bodybuilders and overall he has one of the healthiest profiles. Basically, Flex is in excellent health and has demonstrated the discipline necessary to maintain a peak level of conditioning.
Flex was a participant in a study we recently conducted in collaboration with the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh involving 62 men who made unusually large gains in muscle mass in response to strength training (extreme responders). Flex was one of only nine extreme responders that had the very rare "myostatin mutation." Myostatin is the gene that "limits muscle growth." Specifically, Flex had the rarest form of myostatin mutation at the "exon 2" position on the gene. This simply means Flex has a much larger number of muscle fibers compared to the other subjects or the normal population. We believe that these are the very first myostatin mutation findings in humans and the results of this landmark study have already been submitted for publication. Flex was also found to have a very unusual type of the IGF-1 gene. In fact, Flex was the only participant in the study that did not have a "match." All of the other extreme responders had at least three other subjects with a matching IGF-1 gene. Based upon Flex's very unique genetic profile, we plan to expeditiously publish a scientific paper that reveals his complete genotype in specific detail. The publication of his remarkable genetic data should generate an enormous amount of media exposure.
Hope this information will be helpful and please call if I can be of assistance.
Sincerely,
/s/ Victor Conte

A little more info....
"Myostatin is described as a protein found in the blood that appears (research is still in the early stages) to set a limit on the muscle your body can build."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By: Dean Goudie
There is much to be said about myostatin, where to begin is the difficult point. Myostatin is described as a protein found in the blood that appears (research is still in the early stages) to set a limit on the muscle your body can build.
Many companies have jumped on these findings and created products that are suppose to limit myostatin in your body. The results of this would include, but not be limited to, muscle growth never halting, increasing the number of muscle fibers, not just increased size in existing muscle fibers but new fibers altogether, and fat loss while gaining muscle.
The Proof
What proof is there of this? Genetically gifted bodybuilders have very low levels of this protein in their bodies, which is believed to be the cause of their muscle building gifts. Also in experiments where animals were born without myostatin they grew muscle endlessly with little exercise. This research is paving the way for a great product in the future. Unfortunately that time is not yet here.
There is a research project called "The Myostatin Project" which offers much information towards the facts of just how far along we are in this research and it has been described as being in very early stages. The research is being done by Pinnacle nutrition, which is a company I don't trust or support, which surprised me greatly when they were the ones who said there is no proof this product works. They claim they created their own myostatin product due to pressure they received from Biotest when they (Biotest) got a hold of the myostatin information and quickly released an inhibitor.
They (Pinnacle) go on to say that they are "very early in understanding how myostatin controls muscle growth" and they weren't even sure manipulation of the myostatin gene would even affect muscle mass! It was also stated they weren't sure how much of an inhibitor would be required or even how long it would take to see results. They believed it might take time to observe results, as muscle fibers must increase in size. Whether this is true or a marketing scheme to entice people to take their product for long periods of time with no guarantee of any results still remains in the dark.
Will You Be The Human Guinea Pig?
With little research and hardly anything known about myostatin at all, let alone now knowing proper doses or any possible side effects of such a drug I believe it is far too early to be making products containing substances claiming to inhibit myostatin, especially some of these exact companies are the ones claiming they know nothing about the gene they are trying to inhibit! Pinnacle claims the worst that can happen by using its product in such a premature stage is a small loss of a bit of money. I however believe that a gene altering drug in it's infancy stages should not be taken by anyone who is unwilling to be a human guinea pig.
Research seems to be underway, I plan to wait and see where it leads. I love the idea behind a myostatin inhibitor. Imagine destroying your biggest obstacle as a bodybuilder, your gene limitations. It will be an exciting time if/when this gene can be manipulated, I believe we just have to wait a bit longer.
Thanks,

i tried a myostatin blocker in the pinnicle juiced protein and i don't know if that was the cause but i started to get sharp pains in my left kidney after 3 weeks of use. I went for a check up everything came back negative. I stopped taking the juiced protein just because that was the only thing new in my diet and after about 2 weeks the pain went away. So i'm now gonna stay away from all of those myostatin products.PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY!
