  • Involved in a weight loss contest...got a couple of questions

So my wife and I entered a weight loss contest at our gym. It's a 2 person team thing and the winning team gets 1k dollars! This started 7 weeks ago this saturday. So far I have lost 12lbs just doing the plain on dieting thing. My plan was to go this route. Then maybe run a low carb the last 2 weeks with some water manipulation the last week. The last week I was going to slowly cut my water back during the week until Friday where I eat and drink nothing until the weigh ins that Saturday morning. I was planning on sitting in a few salt baths Friday night (will be the first time I have ever done these) and then hitting the sauna 2-3 times Saturday morning right before the weigh ins.

    My question are:

    1) Should I run the low carb thing the last 2 weeks or just continue like I have been?
    2) How much salt do you normally put in each salt bath?

I don't think (from the looks of everyone that signed up) that anyone will actually cut weight like this for the contest. I almost feel bad for doing it, but hey, it's 1000.00 dollars and there weren't any rules, so....

    Opinions??

I forgot to add that the final weigh in is 3 weeks from this saturday. My goal was to be at 175 before the last week. Then I was figuring on the water manipulation to knock off about 10-15 more lbs. I'm not sure if I will make that goal as I have 2 weeks to drop 8-9lbs.

I have quite a few diet plans already. And with only 3 weeks left in this contest, I don't really want to shell out the money for a trainer. This is one I wanted to do on my own and see what I could get done. Thanks though. I just read the link in my PM about his services. They seem like really good prices!

Please don't taper you water way down and then sit in salt baths and go to the sauna. That's a serious recipe for a hospital visit. If you wanna drop water run it high all the way till the night before stop drinking and take a diuretic. This will get you dry and then you can begin drinking a few hours later once you weigh in.

Really? I have fighter friends that do this routinely. The water taper thing I just threw in there as I was typing the post, but the sauna and baths was something I was planning on. Right now I drink 1 gallon of green tea a day and take dandelion root. What diuretic are you referring to?

Is it just what I said about the water tapering that brought your comment? I have been reading about salt baths, and people do these 3xweek just for soreness or whatever, so I don't see how that is dangerous. Then the sauna people use alot after training, so I don't see that as dangerous either. I'm assuming the water tapering added in there was the problem?

The problem is when you combine them. You taper what down and you will become dehydrated then a salt bath will pull more water from the body. Then you are gonna get in a hot sauna and make your body work to cool its self when it has little fluids left. It will begin to pull water from the organs. Salt baths are fine, saunas are fine, water taper well some people use it well. Combine the three and you could very well have disaster. I would stick with drinking high water 1-2 gallons all the way to the night before 8pm or so. Taking your natural diuretics and maybe a sauna session or two at most in the morning depending in how you look and feel.

Okay, that's what I thought. The water tapering would be stupid in that situation. Like I said, I added that as I was typing...don't really know why but that's what happened. The "plan" was salt bath the night before, sauna the next morning.
