The scientists have identified eight genes responsible for aging process in humans. These genes control the levels of the main steroid produced by the adrenal gland which plays a vital role in aging process. Scientists believe that manipulating the DNA strands could slow down the aging process and also discourage many age related complications.
These genes control the levels of steroid dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEAS). It’s one of the most abundant steroids in human body and controls many important functions.
The scientists from across the globe evaluated the DHEAS levels and 2.5million genetic variants in 14,846 people from Europe and the US. The results of the study were published in PLoS Genetics journal. The results of the study has revealed that the level of DHEAS were linked to ageing and age-related diseases such as type 2 diabetes and lymphoma in majority of the participants.
Dr. Guangju Zhai, Author of the study, from King's College, London, said that the supplement of natural steroid are already available in the marke, these steroids could slow down the ageing process gradually but it’s too early to say how effective they are.
