    Re: Just an update...

Well, because of the weather, I won't be able to weigh in on the same scale that I have been weighing on. But, judging by my home scale, I have lost about 2 pounds since Thursday which was the last day I weighed in on my personal scale. I have a buddy that has a really high end scale that they use for weighing MMA fighters. It gives you a readout of weight, % lost in water, % lost in fat, %BF, etc....It's a bada** scale and that is the one I have been using as a reference. That scale and my personal scale always differ in readings, so I will just weight until I can get back on that scale to note for sure how much I have lost. I know that since I started this, my BF% has dropped a few percent as well. I will update when I get back to the good scale...maybe tomorrow.

Also, I didn't get the cardio in that I wanted over the weekend because I was working on some home repairs that took longer than expected. But my wife and I are thinking about signing up for a spin class at the gym to see if that will speed the process up....I am getting the itch to put on some lean muscle but I really want to get to this goal first.

      Re: Just an update...

Well, I weighed on the the good scale today and I am not in the 170s!! 179.8 to be exact but it's still in the 170s. I am hoping my increased cardio will start to shed the weight off. I'm ready to get in the 160s now!

Oh and I have also gotten into my ideal BF range too. I have dropped about 5% BF since I started working to lose the weight.

                Re: Just an update...

Well, this past weekend wasn't so good!! My wife had her best friend from out of town come in and stayed with us all weekend so we killed the diet while she was here. I gained 3lbs over the weekend!! But man was it good.

I have about 3 weeks until my goal date and I am about 20lbs away from my goal. I don't see me getting to my goal by then, but it's not like I can't just keep going. I just really wanted to hit this goal. I am ready to get back in the gym and put on some lean muscle. I am going to hit everything HARD HARD the next 3 weeks and see what I can do. After that, I may just jump into a recomp after that...that way I'll be working toward two goals at once.

                  Re: Just an update...

Well, I made it out to weigh in again. I am down to 172...I didn't catch my BF% this time. But I am about 10-12lbs from my goal. That makes 20lbs that I have lost. I can actually see it in my belt now. I am going to start back with the weights in March, so that gives me about 3 weeks to drop the last few pounds. I am going to keep up the good eating and really hit the cardio hard and see what happens.

20 pounds kind of snuck up on me. It felt weird hearing that. My over all goal was 30.

Time for my next question. At what BF% would guys say would be best to start looking at adding lean muscle? I want to be able to see it as I add and I didn't know if above 15% would be too fat to really see the results....just curious

                    Re: Just an update...

A lot of water weight from the beginning gives big numbers. Personally, I would already be slinging steal while incorporating the cardio. The more muscle you have the more efficient your body is at burning fat. Cardio is good.. but it is not the "end-all-beat-all" that people make it out to be. For instance, many people spend hours doing cardio.. however the effectiveness of that is limited and they begin to not see any different, but they can sure walk those flights of stairs easy. Read any study and it will tell you 20-30 min of cardio at a "FAT BURNING" (significantly different that heart strengthening/endurance pace) pace is all most need. That along with a good workout regimen to build muscle, which in turn burns fat.. will equate to a lean muscular physique..

i agree start slamming the iron man. You will notice it at any bf assuming you aren't extremely obese which at your weight i think would be hard. focuse on your strength gains and along with strength will come the size.

I agree about the water weight. The reason I haven't gotten back to the weights is because I did this weight loss thing with my wife to keep her motivated. So it was all about losing the weight (number) more than adding anything at first. If I would have been working with weights, my weight would have changed so much (or in my mind I didn't think it would adding muscle). She gets pretty motivated seeing my number drop. The scale we use (not sure on it's accuracy but it is always really close to the calipers) tells how much BF you've dropped, how much loss was water, how much was fat, etc....most of this weight has been fat except maybe the first week or so. I mean, I have dropped about 6% BF since starting. The only cardio I have been doing is the spin class which is high intensity for about 45 minutes. I usually do this 2-3 times a week. I was going to add some sprints in until the end of Feb. I am hitting the weights again March 1st no matter what. I want to see some kind of results by summer. Thanks

That's kind of what I thought, but wanted to make sure.

                          Re: Just an update...

Okay guys, I weighed in again this week for the last time on the diet I have been doing. I think I was at like 173.xx pounds and 19.4%BF. So, my BF went up a bit from the last time but we had a really bad weekend of eating and drinking, so that caught up with me.

As some of you may know, I had started training with IA before his passing and I still have about 10 weeks left that I had paid for. The guy that took over his board is going to train me for the 10 weeks that I had left and then I'll probably stick with him as he has some very good reviews on his work. Not to mention he is a "keep it simple stupid" kind of guy. He doesn't like taking a lot of supplements and doesn't like getting into a lot of theory. He just knows what works and what doesn't. So, he is putting together my plan this weekend and if that is the case, I will be back in the gym on Monday to continue toward my goal.

Speaking of goal, I have changed it somewhat. Instead of my goal being a certain weight at this point, I have changed that to getting to 10%BF. Once I reach that goal, I will move on from there. I am REALLY trying to do this right this time, and hopefully will be the beginning of a lifestyle change. I figure at 10-12%BF, I will be a TOTALLY different person and then the lean gains will really show! So here's to hoping that by next summer I will be ripped and ready to get rid of the t-shirts!!

                              Re: Just an update...

Wow, I started with John this week. It has gone really good. I have stuck with the eating plan and workouts. I was really surprised at how weak I have gotten since not being in the gym...it is really quite embarrassing. I am hoping that it will come back quickly though.

As part of my nutrition plan, I get a cheat day tomorrow....and get this, he told me to take in 10-15k calories of junk food tomorrow!!! I thought I heard him wrong when I first talked with it, but he has a lot of clients doing this and it is really working. He says it shoots your metabolism through the roof and then on Sunday I only eat 1000 calories, then back to normal Monday through Friday. As long as it works, I don't care....the plus side is I can go crazy eating on Saturdays!! I have been monitoring my weight this week, I have a lost a little bit but I can tell that I am still leaning out. I am really starting to see it in the mirror now and my clothes.

I am going to just use this thread as my log to help me stick with everything. If it needs to moved to another section, just let me know.
