Re: diet colas
It is totally debatable, and opinions vary from trainer to trainer. I had one that told me NO diet drinks what-so-ever. Her reason was because of false insulin spikes. Basically saying insulin dumps into the bloodstream with nothing much to do.
A ProMuscle member posted that a guy measured his insulin response to diet drinks vs regular drinks with sugar. He's responses were..
• Stevia produces a raise of insulin of 2 points over baseline
• Splenda was 4 points
• regular drink was 16 points..
Their thinking was that Splenda raises insulin more than Stevia because of the Maltodextrin as a filler although it is very small quantity.
I haven't seen any studies supporting any of this. I'm talked to other trainers who don't mind clients drinking diet drinks... especially Splenda.
The best thing to do is stop drinking diet drinks for a couple of weeks and see how your body reacts. If you loose more weight, then it might be your culprit.
