Not for recovery or anything but for mental clarity and focus. I just started using this stuff and it seems to "clear" up my thinking and vision a little bit.

Re: Ginkgo Biloba- Anyone take this ??
I'm not being skeptical but do you think it's possibly the placebo effect? Sometimes I take things and wonder if it's really working or if it's just my mind doing the work.
I've been curious about that stuff. I've been thinking about getting some. Did you notice a difference immediately, or has it been a gradual change?

I got mine at a place called EarthFare for around 6 bucks. Cant remember how many caps there are. There were some more expensive ones but they all had the same concentrated extract amount so I went with the cheaper one. I figured it couldnt hurt to try it and see for myself.

I usually take it for a week straight before an exam, then stop. I am skeptical about it as well, as I think it's a placebo effect. But who knows? I stop taking it after I'm done with my exams so that I don't become dependent on it. I doubt it has any addictive properties.

It supposedly has many of the effects that prescription nootropics or'smart drugs' such as hydergine, piractem, and deprenyl possess. I've actually tried hydergine and deprenyl in the past and did notice benefits in the form of increased memory, concentration, and focus. The aforementioned drugs can also be helpful in the gym, improving the 'mind and muscle' connection which is crucial in getting the most out of your workouts.
I've never tried gingko biloba but I may have to give it a try. I know it's one of the main ingredients in the supplement 'Focus Factor' which is pretty popular.

Between Ginkgo and acetyl l-carnitine, my general cognitive responses have been better from what I can tell. I mean even my vision seems to have a little more clarity when focusing on something. Anyways, i was just curious if anyone else has had any success or not with it.

Re: Ginkgo Biloba- Anyone take this ??
The typical daily dose of ginkgo biloba--and the one used in many of the experiments described in this article--is 120 milligrams of dried extract in two or three oral doses. The extract contains several flavonoids, a large group of natural plant products that are characterized by a specific chemical structure containing a series of carbon rings. Ginkgo extract also contains some biflavonoids, a related group of compounds, and two different types of terpenes, a class of naturally occurring chemicals that includes the active ingredients in catnip and marijuana.
To date, dozens of investigations have examined the cognitive effects of ginkgo in humans, but many of the research reports are in non-English publications or in journals with very restricted distribution, making assessment of the findings difficult. The great majority of studies have involved subjects with mild to moderate mental impairment, usually a diagnosis of early Alzheimer's. Most of the experiments that show evidence of cognitive enhancement in Alzheimer's patients have used a standardized ginkgo extract known as EGb 761.
The ginkgo researchers have usually employed tests of learning and memory; less attention has been paid to other mental functions such as attention, motivation and anxiety. Moreover, because most of the investigators introduced the tests to the subjects after long-term use of ginkgo biloba (typically several months), it is hard to identify which cognitive abilities have been affected. For example, higher scores on the memory and learning tests might stem from the fact that subjects who used ginkgo paid better attention to the initial instructions. To get more specific data on ginkgo's effects, researchers need to administer the tests both before and after the subjects take the supplement.

Re: Ginkgo Biloba- Anyone take this ??
I have spoken with a doctor who is doing research on alternative medicines here at UVa... I was having problems trying to keep focus at work.... His advice was to take two drops of an alcohol based, liquid rosemary twice a day, right onto your tongue... in the morning or in the afternoon... or when you feel mentally sluggish.... I found some at a yoga place in town..... tastes awful, however, it has done really well for crunch-deadline time.. The doctor says it helps blood flow within the brain.
For all i know he could be pulling my chain... but I feel like it works and I notice it in my work.. so I am sticking with it.
