  • Zip-loc Omlet

I got this in an email today and sounded kinda good.

    ZIPLOC OMELETS

This works great !!! Good when you're alone or when all your
family is together. Best feature is that no one has to wait for their
special omelet !!! Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc
    freezer bag with permanent marker.

    - Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the quart size Ziploc
bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them.

    - Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion,
green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.

    - Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag
    and shake.

    - Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.

    - Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13
minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make
    another pot of boiling water.

    - Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared
    for everyone to be amazed.

    - Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets
involved in the process and a great conversation piece.

Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag
in boiling water while you get ready. And in 13 minutes, you have a
nice omlette for a quick breakfast!!!

IN THEORY, THIS IS A GOOD IDEA. WHEN ACTUALLY DONE, IT SUCKS. MESSY AS HELL. I GOT TO THE POINT OF SEALING UP THE BAG AND SHAKING IT UP AND SAID **** IT AND MADE A REGULAR STYLE OMLET.

Huh, I wish there was a post here where somebody actually tried this and it worked well for them. I plan on trying it this weekend but I will be prepared for it to be messy.

Hey, I just did this with my daughter and it was PERFECT! Best omlet I've ever made. 12 minutes cooking is perfect for a 2 egg omlet & the size of a 2 egg omlet takes a perfect shape in the small zip lock bags I used. I also did a 3 egg omlet and it was not all the way cooked after 12 minutes plus it was a big blob instead of a perfectly proportioned restaurant style shape. We will do this again next weekend.

Yeah, let's all eat cake! This recipe is clearly not aimed at body builders. But, hey I hope somebody else tries this omelet idea. I sure liked it.

                        Re: Zip-loc Omlet

I just tried this again this weekend. This time I added too many veggies and the water from the veggies can't escape in the zip loc bag so I had to drain a lot of liquid off the plate. So, take it easy on the veggies!
