see,thats what i don't understand. when dieting or whatever people say to eat those as opposed to regular white potatoes....HOW?!?!? they have a lot of sugar in them. when i diet (on the rare occasion) i don't eat ANY sugar at all, let along 17g in one sweet potato. i'll stick to red skin or white potatoes. sweet potatos are gross.

Although I think sweet potatoes with some splenda and cinnamon are awesome.

The white potato has a GI of 85 the sweet potato has a GI of 54. Also the sweet potato has a lot of betacarotene (neutralizes free radicals.)
The lower the glycemic index the better for weight loss.
it is also higher in fiber. fiber may help to lower cholesterol.
if you want to gain weight (READ: FAT) then eat the white potatoes. if you want to get clean carbs and be in shape eat sweet potatoes.Last edited by Phreak; 06-16-2006, 09:46 AM.

red skin are along the same lines (healthy, weight loss) as sweet potatos, right?
and crombie, those nutrition facts are based off 1oz, the ones you read were based off 1 cup.

i've tried out the sweet potato thing before, even loaded it with spray butter and cinnamon and just couldn't choke it down. i'll stick with red skin.

I love sweet potatoes... especially the Okinawa/Hawaiian Sweet Potatoe (purple)! They aren't nearly as sweet like yams. If I can't get a hold of any Okinawain Sweet Potatoes then I'll purchase the regular sweet potatoes (white) - not YAMS (orange)! I hate those orange and overly sweet phucking things!
