You are entering a "commodities" business.
Low Cost in this sector wins almost always. Think Wal-Mart.
So, if you decide to go forward, a majority of success will be dependent on how well you control your costs.
So, if you don't have that habit now, it is best to start it ASAP.
Good Luck
PS-Spare Time: Running a business is 100% full time. Their are not spare time business's, that is a myth perpetuated on unsuspecting folks by other folks selling ideas that meet their wants but not their needs.

No offense bro, but it's a horrible idea unless you are dedicating yourself 100%. Guys like muscleshoppe.com sell supplements for LESS THAN WHOLESALE! I used to have a smaller supplement business and these guys were selling supplements for what I was paying for them! There's really not much money to be made anymore, except locally, which is a full time job.

No come on, if this were the case, there's no way they would still be around, granted shipping is generally 'off' by a dollar or two, but thats not enough of a profit to cover your ass. I have a close friend in the business, they may want you to think this, but its not the case at all.
anyways, i dicussed it with my partners, it turns out my friends grand dad owns a brick and mortar supplement store, so we mght just give him a web solution ... who knows, i just want cheap sups

If you want to start a successful business you first must find a "need" Unless you offer something that is wanted but not easy to get you will not succeed. Think not only of product but of price as well. Do you have any mgt or marketing experiance?TEAMSKIP

If you are doing retail, this business is completely volume based. The profit margin on most supplements is awful. We are talking like 50 cents here if you want to be competative and you are going through a distributor. The only way to make a few bucks on a sale is to have alot of capital and purchase a large quantity while making a deal with individual companies if possible. When you have companies like 1fast, netrition, bb.com etc who all have storefronts or large warehouses plus the money to undercut you, its practically impossible to compete. I actually tried to go foward with an online supplement store and ended up abandoning the idea after getting my business license, setting up contacts with distributors, and the whole nine yards... The most pathetic part was that some of the larger supplement stores online were actually SELLING products below what I could purchase them for through my distributor... Rough market man...
